The triceps brachii is a three-headed muscle located on the back of the upper arm. It has a long head, lateral head, and medial head, all inserting into the ulna. It is responsible for elbow extension (straightening the arm) and assists in shoulder extension. The triceps make up about two-thirds of the upper arm mass and are essential for pushing movements.
