The semimembranosus is one of the three hamstring muscles. It originates from the ischial tuberosity and inserts into the medial condyle of the tibia. It flexes the knee and extends the hip, and also internally rotates the leg when the knee is flexed. It is the deepest of the three hamstring muscles.
