Detailed Information

The gluteus maximus is the largest and strongest muscle in the human body. It originates from the ilium, sacrum, and coccyx, and inserts into the gluteal tuberosity of the femur and the iliotibial band. It extends and externally rotates the hip, and is the primary muscle for standing up from a seated position, climbing stairs, and running. It is heavily involved in squats and deadlifts.
