The rectus femoris is one of the four quadriceps muscles. It is unique because it crosses both the hip and knee joints. It originates from the anterior inferior iliac spine and inserts into the patella. It extends the knee and flexes the hip. It is the most visible quadriceps muscle and is heavily involved in running and jumping.
