Detailed Information

The external obliques are the outermost of the oblique muscles. They originate from the lower eight ribs and insert into the iliac crest and linea alba. They rotate the trunk to the opposite side and laterally flex the spine. They also assist in compressing the abdomen and flexing the spine.
