Sour Cherry — photo 1

Sour cherries, such as Morello and Montmorency, are too tart for most people to eat raw in quantity and are mainly used for jam, pies, compotes, dumpling fillings and juice. A 100 g portion has about 50 kcal and 12 g of carbohydrate, 8.5 g of it sugars, with 10 mg of vitamin C and about 20 times the vitamin A of sweet cherries. Recipes usually add a lot of sugar: cherry pie filling has over twice and cherry jam about five times these calories.
