Pineapple

Good nutritional profile

Raw pineapple flesh.

Pineapple — photo 1

Pineapple is a tropical fruit eaten fresh, grilled, or added to salads and savory dishes. A cup of chunks, about 165 g, gives just over 80 kcal and 16 g of sugar, and it covers most of the daily value of vitamin C and more than half of manganese. Fresh pineapple contains bromelain, an enzyme that breaks down protein, which is why it can make the mouth tingle and why raw pineapple stops gelatin from setting.
