Olive Oil

Good nutritional profile

Olive oil, extra virgin or refined; calories and fat are the same.

Olive Oil — photo 1

Olive oil is pressed from olives and used for dressings, cooking and drizzling over finished dishes. It is almost pure fat: a 10 ml serving, about two teaspoons, has about 81 kcal and 9 g of fat, nearly three quarters of it monounsaturated, mainly oleic acid, and about 1.3 g saturated. A tablespoon (15 ml) has about 120 kcal, so pouring without measuring adds calories quickly; extra virgin oil keeps more flavor and polyphenols.
