Margarine — photo 1

Margarine is a spread of vegetable oils and water, used on bread and in baking and frying in place of butter. A 10 g serving has about 71 kcal and 8 g of fat, with about 1.2 g saturated compared with about 5 g in the same amount of butter, and about 66 mg of sodium. Values are for modern margarine without partially hydrogenated oil, so almost free of trans fat, and without added vitamins A and D. Many brands contain whey or buttermilk and soy lecithin.
