Blue poppy seeds are a staple of Ukrainian and Polish holiday cooking: ground with honey for kutia, the Christmas Eve wheat dish, and used as the filling of poppy seed rolls (makivnyk). A 20 g portion has about 105 kcal, 3.6 g of protein and 3.9 g of fiber, and is high in calcium (about 290 mg), manganese and copper, with iron, magnesium and zinc. Values are for the dry seeds; they are usually scalded, soaked and ground before use, so weigh them dry.
