Maple Syrup

Moderate nutritional value

Pure maple syrup, values per 100 ml.

Maple Syrup — photo 1

Sap of the sugar maple boiled down to a syrup, made mainly in Canada and the northeastern US and poured over pancakes, waffles, oatmeal and yogurt. A 20 ml serving (a generous tablespoon) gives about 70 kcal and 16 g of sugar, with about a third of a day's manganese and little else. Cheaper pancake or table syrups are flavored corn syrup rather than maple and have similar calories but almost no manganese.
