A rotator cuff muscle that initiates shoulder abduction and stabilizes the shoulder joint.

The supraspinatus is one of the four rotator cuff muscles. It originates from the supraspinous fossa of the scapula and inserts into the greater tubercle of the humerus. It initiates shoulder abduction (raising the arm) and helps stabilize the shoulder joint. The supraspinatus is commonly injured, especially in overhead athletes.
